Ad Appeals

ASDA’s ad nails the idea that even the grumpiest skeptic can’t resist a good deal. The Grinch trudges through an overpriced Christmas market, unimpressed and moody. But once he steps into ASDA, the prices and cheer win him over. I’d use that same kind of visual twist in a recruitment ad. Picture a recruiter, laser-focused on finding the “perfect” candidate. He’s flipping through resumes, dismissing anything that doesn’t fit the mold. Then one lands on his desk—someone outside the target profile, but the resume is too good to ignore. He pauses, reads again, and smiles. The talent speaks for itself. He caves. The message? Sometimes the best fit isn’t what you expected. Whether it’s holiday shopping or hiring, real value can surprise you. Stay open. Let excellence break through your filters. Ad Link: ASDA Christmas Ad

Without the same recruiting pipelines as big-name schools, students often have to network on their own, reach out to employers directly, and prove themselves through their skills and effort. This builds determination and confidence that employers notice. To expand this idea into a documentary, the research could include interviews with successful people who came from non-target schools, comparisons of how hiring works at target and non-target schools, and a look at how bias toward prestige affects opportunity. The film could show both personal stories and the bigger picture of how the system works. When making a persuasive argument, it is important to think about the audience. Some people may believe school prestige is everything, so they will need clear facts and examples. Others, like students, may connect more with stories of hard work and success....
